Lansing, Mich.-based Sparrow Health is using a new in-house system at its lab in Lansing to test for monkeypox, the Detroit Free Press reported Aug. 8.
The turnaround time for test results is less than 24 hours, the report said. Sparrow had been using the state lab, which typically took more than a day to get patients their results.
Sparrow's lab is testing for all orthopoxvirus, the report said. Positive tests trigger a more specific test for monkeypox.
Samples can be taken at any of the health system's labs, emergency rooms or urgent care facilities in mid-Michigan, the report said.
