New infectious disease lab in Tennessee is only one for 400 miles

Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Athena Esoterix is opening a 3,850-square-foot infectious disease lab, according to a Nov. 26 Chattanooga Times Free Press report.

The lab will specialize in advanced molecular detection and microbial testing. It will be the only lab of its kind with infectious disease sequencing for 400 miles, the company said.

Elizabeth Forrester, MD, and Dawn Richards, MD, the company's founders, plan to open the lab at the currently under construction Riverfront Parkway medical complex in Chattanooga, according to the report.
