Biomarkers associated with some mental disorders can be measured in routine blood tests, according to a study published April 6 in Science Advances.
Researchers evaluated blood tests from almost 1 million volunteers and looked at 50 factors including cholesterol, vitamins, enzymes and indicators of inflammation. Nine mental health disorders were evaluated with respect to the factors measured.
Researchers said some of the genetic trait-biomarker pairings were consistent with evidence of causality rather than just correlation, but further study and confirmation is warranted.
