The Chief Executive Officer of Cheshire Medical Center and the leadership team of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health seek a dynamic leader who can oversee all financial aspects of the medical center, but also be a strong presence and proponent of our health system.
Many of the standard financial aspects of Cheshire Medical Center have been centralized within our overall system, so we are looking for the type of financial leader who can see the big picture and leverage his/her experience to help solidify our financial stability locally and across our system’s service area. The CFO of Cheshire Medical should be a champion of fostering a team-oriented environment built on partnerships with all members of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health.
The Chief Financial Officer of Cheshire Medical Center will serve as a key member of the Senior Leadership team by developing and implementing the financial strategic plans and goals for the hospital. Additionally, they will develop financial forecast data, analysis, recommendations and decision-making support related to key business performance measurements and provide analysis of performance versus operating budgets and present overall financial results to drive future decisions.
Essential responsibilities include:
- Serving as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team reporting to the CEO and working closely with the COO to guide and oversee both immediate and future operations.
- Leading the financial planning process for both near-term and long-term strategic initiatives.
- Leading the financial analytics team to be focused on future planning as supported by data analytics.
- Partnering closely with the Leadership Team to provide financial discipline and financial goals through business development, revenue optimization, cost containment and maximizing productivity.
- Leading the development and completion of operating and capital budget in collaboration with operations on an annual basis.
- Providing on-going monthly budget analysis and communication with the leadership team to assure comprehensive analysis of trends and variances, benchmarking and effective reporting.
- Continually monitors organization’s financial performance and compliance and delivers key data and financial metrics to leadership in support of short and long-term business decisions or to alert them to unfavorable revenue or expense trends, weakening business volumes, savings opportunities, productivity metrics, etc.
- Promote an organization-wide culture of financial stewardship with proactive departmental financial accountability and development and utilization of departmental variance reporting tools.
- Collaborates with Dartmouth Hitchcock Corporate Finance to oversee all aspects of basic accounting operations and ensures timely and accurate execution of all transactions related to general ledger, receivables, payables, payroll and financial reporting. This includes the monthly financial close and final sign off on the financial statements including balance sheet reserves and estimates.
- Collaborates with Dartmouth Hitchcock Corporate Finance for developing and maintaining all necessary accounting policies and systems and timely and accurate financial management in accordance with all GAAP, FASB, Corporate Accounting Policies, and Auditor specifications and monitors and enforces adherence to internal controls.
- Collaborates with Dartmouth-Hitchcock Corporate Finance to ensure proper management and oversight of the annual financial audit as well as to strategize and oversee the pension plan, all investments and cash flow.
- Acts as resource to the Board and supports finance and audit committees; develop and deliver reports on financial matters regularly.
- Works closely with Vice President of Philanthropy and the Cheshire Health Foundation Board of Trustees to meet the organizational philanthropic needs.
- Interviews, hires, and creates on-boarding plans for new or transferred employees; provides mentoring, coaching, and educational activities to support employee development that aligns with organizational goals and objectives.
- The Cheshire Medical Center CFO has a secondary reporting relationship to the DHH System CFO. The Cheshire Medical Center CFO works closely with the System CFO, and other System CFOs, to execute on System finance strategies. The Cheshire Medical Center CFO is responsible for leading System finance integration efforts at Cheshire Medical Center.

Minimum qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent related experience in a related field is required.
- An MBA in Finance and CPA is preferred.
Minimum Experience:
- A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in Finance (preferably within the Healthcare industry) or related role.
- Prior experience in a finance leadership position required.
Specific Skills, Knowledge and/or Competencies:
- Leadership and excellent communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and practices, general ledger and financial statements in a not-for-profit organization.
- Expert knowledge of federal grants and procurement and contract oversight.
- Ability to effectively interpret and communicate complex financial metrics.
