Retail pharmacy and healthcare giant Walgreens Boots Alliance has completed a majority share acquisition of home healthcare company CareCentrix.
CareCentrix is valued at approximately $800 million; Walgreens acquired a 55 percent majority of the company with a $330 million investment. CareCentrix will continue to operate as an independent entity and maintain its own corporate leadership structure, according to an Aug. 31 Walgreens news release.
The partnership aims to provide at-home care to patients with chronic conditions as they come home from the hospital.
"This partnership advances our ability to address the needs of people across care settings immediately following hospital discharge," Walgreens CEO Roz Brewer said in the release. "Our collaboration with CareCentrix is one of the many ways we are expanding on our pharmacy and patient expertise to surround individuals with care when and how they need it."
