Oregon sees 1st plague case in 8 years

Oregon confirmed its first bubonic plague case since 2015.

The resident may have been infected by their sick cat, which may have been bitten by an infected flea, Sky News reported. The resident has been treated with antibiotics in the early stages of the disease.

Deschutes County Health Services said there is little risk to the community and no additional plague cases have emerged during the investigation, according to a Feb. 7 news release.
