The revision process for ICD-11 is currently underway and the final version will be released in 2017, according to a fact sheet from the World Health Organization.
While no official announcement has been made, the 2017 launch date is two years later than had been anticipated — an older version of the WHO fact sheet lists a 2015 roll out for ICD-11.
Some industry stakeholders had advocated the U.S. healthcare industry skip over ICD-10 and begin ICD-11 to keep on pace with the rest of the world. The American Medical Association and others have rejected this idea, claiming jumping to ICD-11 would bring even more disruptions to the industry.
