Nearly a month after President Barack Obama signed legislation that delays the transition to ICD-10 coding by at least one year, many healthcare providers and industry stakeholders are continuing their preparations for the transition while awaiting official guidance from CMS and HHS.

1. AHIMA: 88% of Providers Disappointed by ICD-10 Delay
The vast majority of attendees at the American Health Information Management Association's ICD-10 summit in Washington, D.C., April 22-23, reported disappointment in the recent delay of the ICD-10 mandate.
2. AHIP Becomes Part of Coalition for ICD-10
America's Health Insurance Plans is now a member of the Coalition for ICD-10, a group of prominent industry stakeholders and organizations that support adoption of the new coding system.
3. 4 Tips for Physician Training in Light of the ICD-10 Delay
Robin Settle, a partner at healthcare consulting firm Kurt Salmon, offered these four tips for adjusting ICD-10 physician training efforts in light of the delay.
4. Survey: 73% of Providers' ICD-10 Preparations Will Continue On
Despite the delay of at least a year, 73 percent of respondents to a Decision Health survey reported their ICD-10 plans will either continue as planned or they will use the same preparations on an adjusted timeline.
5. CMS Official: HHS Will Make Release Plan for ICD-10 Delay Shortly
CMS is developing plans for dealing with the ICD-10 delay, and HHS will make an announcement regarding the plan soon, a CMS official told attendees at the American Health Information Management Association ICD-10 Summit.
