Hospitals and unions: 5 recent conflicts, agreements

Becker's Hospital Review reported the following hospital-union events since Oct. 10.

1. About 4,000 mental health clinicians of Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente are prepared to hold a five-day strike in November at more than 100 clinics and medical facilities statewide.

2. Workers ratified a contract agreement between Wailuku, Hawaii-based Maui Health System and the union that represents about 470 of them.

3. Mount Sinai Hospital unionized healthcare staff joined Chicago Public Schools workers Oct. 19 as they continued their strike amid contract talks with city negotiators.

4. Fifty-seven thousand workers in California ratified a four-year contract agreement with Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente

5. A union is accusing Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center of trafficking law violations related to its program to recruit nurses from the Philippines to work in the hospital.
