NY lawmakers criticize Gov. Cuomo for not knowing about hospital's pension fallout

In a recent interview, Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he has "to look into" a pension dispute involving Schenectady, N.Y.-based St. Clare's Hospital, according to the Albany Times Union.

State lawmakers condemned the governor's lack of knowledge surrounding the pension issue, which was revealed by the Times Union in 2018. At the time, 1,100 former St. Clare's Hospital employees found out their pensions would be sharply reduced or cut altogether. St. Clare's Hospital said the 2008 recession wiped out the funds and the Catholic church decided to stop funding the benefits.

State lawmakers questioned how Gov. Cuomo could not know much about the issue after his office received hundreds of petitions on the fallout in June.
