Workers at Partners HealthCare's Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital in Boston voted in favor of unionization.
With the vote, approximately 500 workers, including administrative, housekeeping, and food service staff, as well as medical interpreters, join 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, the union said in a news release.
"Through a free and fair election process, service workers at Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital joined together and will now use the strength of their united voice to better advocate for themselves and their families while continuing to provide the quality care their patients need and deserve," Tyrék D. Lee, Sr., executive vice president of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, said in the release. "We are proud to welcome our new Faulkner sisters and brothers into our 1199SEIU family and look forward to working with them to ensure all workers — including those not yet unionized — have good jobs, fair wages and respect, dignity and a voice in the workplace."
David Goldberg, a spokesperson for the hospital, said Faulkner anticipates a "positive relationship" with 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, according to The Boston Globe. "As always, the well-being of our employees and our patients will remain at the forefront of all we do," he said.
The union said Faulkner workers joined approximately 56,000 other 1199SEIU members in Massachusetts.
