Roughly 50 nurses at Philadelphia-based Hahnemann University Hospital picketed Friday, calling for improved staffing levels at area hospitals, according to a Philadelphia Business Journal report.
The nurses, represented by the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses & Allied Professionals, want a patient-to-nurse ratio of 3 to 1.
During the rally, the nurses revealed a petition that has been signed by thousands of nurses at local medical centers demanding improved staffing, according to the article. A number of elected officials also attended the rally.
In response to the demonstration, Hahnemann University Hospital officials released the following statement to the Philadelphia Business Journal: "Hahnemann University Hospital has been negotiating for several months with the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals and remains committed to reaching a collective bargaining agreement. As we move through this process our focus remains, as it always has been, to provide high-quality, patient-centered care to those we serve."
