An unfair labor practice charge against the Michigan Nurses Association at Royal Oak, Mich.-based Beaumont Hospital has been withdrawn.
The June 14 charge had accused the MNA of coercing employees.
"We were confident from the beginning that this frivolous charge would be found without merit," union spokesperson Liz Martinez, RN, said in an e-mailed statement to Becker's. "It is the million-dollar executives at Beaumont, not us, who do not respect nurses. That's why we filed an unfair labor practice charge against Beaumont."
Ms. Martinez was referring to the MNA's own unfair labor charge, which was filed against Beaumont July 9. The MNA is accusing the hospital of interfering with workers' efforts to unionize.
Beaumont Health officials dispute the charges. "We do not believe there is any merit to those allegations," Susan Grant, DNP, executive vice president and chief nursing officer for Beaumont Health, told The Detroit News. Some Beaumont service workers are unionized and several executive leaders are nurses, Dr. Grant added.
