Whidbey General Hospital nurses rally over contract

Nurses at Coupeville, Wash.-based Whidbey General Hospital rallied Aug. 13 as the Washington State Nurses Association — the union that represents them — and hospital management continue to try to agree on a contract, according to a Whidbey News-Times.

Union leaders at the rally identified four sticking points — rest breaks, pay, staffing and training.

Whidbey General is in the fifth month of negotiations. The nurses' three-year contract expired in March, and the union and hospital management have engaged in three sessions with a state mediator, according to the report. The next session is scheduled for Aug. 17.
