Strike Authorized at West Virginia University Hospitals

Members of a union at Morgantown, W.Va.-based West Virginia University Hospitals voted to authorize a strike and gave a 10-day strike notice Dec. 19, according to a report by The Dominion Post.

Local 814 of the Laborers' International Union of North America represents about 900 service workers at WVU Hospitals. The workers include nurses' aides, patient transport, phlebotomists and materials handlers, among other employees.

Even though a strike has been authorized, union leadership doesn't think a strike will actually occur. A contract extension would stop a walkout, according to the report.
