Pennsylvania hospital workers vote to unionize

Healthcare professionals who work at Temple University Hospital – Jeanes Campus in Philadelphia have voted to join the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals.

The vote, completed July 9, covers 79 professionals including staff chaplains, nutritionists, medical technologists, physician assistants, registered pharmacists, clinical specialists, social workers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists and cardiopulmonary therapists, according to a union news release shared with Becker's.

Eighty-eight percent of professionals voted in favor of unionizing, the release said.

They join 128 Jeanes technical specialists, who voted to join PASNAP in February.

"I voted 'yes' for our union because I believe that my coworkers and I not only deserve to have our voices heard, but we also deserve to be part of the decision-making process that greatly impacts our jobs and our workplace," Sarah Guess, an occupational therapist, said in the release. "The better our workplace, the better we can serve and care for our patients."

Becker's has reached out to Temple Health and will update the story if a comment is received.
