The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration initiated an investigation into an industrial accident at Concord, Mass.-based Emerson Hospital July 18 that killed one individual, according to CBS4 Boston.
According to a July 18 joint statement by the Middlesex District Attorney's Office and Concord's police and fire chiefs, a 46-year-old man died while working in a crawl space on a boiler system at the hospital.
Police said the case is an open investigation. Officials said the individual's death is not considered suspicious, and as a result, no additional information will be released.
The individual's identity has not been released.
An OSHA official told Wicked Local the agency was notified of the incident and has opened an investigation to determine if any violations of workplace safety standards occured. The official told the publication it is unclear when the organization will complete its investigation.
An Emerson Hospital official told Wicked Local via email: "We are extremely saddened by this tragic event. We are cooperating fully with the appropriate authorities while this incident is under investigation."
