Nurses at the soon-to-close Youngstown, Ohio-based Northside Regional Medical Center have reached a tentative contract agreement with Dallas-based Steward Health Care, according to a Tribune Chronicle report.
The agreement, reached Sept. 6, covers nurses represented by the Youngstown General Duty Nurses Association. It comes after Steward announced plans to close Northside Regional Sept. 20 due to a significant decline in patient volume.
In negotiations with Steward, union officials said they seek to ensure nurses are allowed adequate time to find jobs with comparable pay at other regional locations.
Union president Laurie Hornberger and Steward did not share details of the tentative agreement, which still must be ratified by the nurses in a vote slated for this week.
Northside Regional will stop accepting ambulances and admissions to the emergency department Sept. 17 and will transfer or discharge any remaining patients by Sept. 19.
