Nurses at the soon-to-close Youngstown, Ohio-based Northside Regional Medical Center have ratified a contract with Dallas-based Steward Health Care, according to a Tribune Chronicle report.
Molly Homan, director of communications for the Ohio Nurses Association, told the publication, "due to the terms of this agreement, we cannot discuss further details." Steward did not immediately return a message from the newspaper seeking comment.
The ratification comes after both sides reached a tentative agreement Sept. 6 covering 188 nurses represented by the Youngstown General Duty Nurses Association. It also comes after Steward announced plans to close Northside Regional Sept. 20 due to a significant decline in patient volume.
In negotiations with Steward, union officials said they seek to ensure nurses are allowed adequate time to find jobs with comparable pay at other regional locations.
Northside Regional will stop accepting ambulances and admissions to the emergency department Sept. 17 and will transfer or discharge any remaining patients by Sept. 19.
