New York Nurses Rally for Staffing Limits

More than a hundred nurses from the New York State Nurses Association rallied in front of the office of the state’s Department of Health in support of a bill that would establish a minimum nurse-to-patient ratio at hospitals in the state, according to a WNYT report.

The bill was considered by two state Assembly committees last year but has not yet been considered in any Senate committee, according to the report.

The Health Care Association of New York State opposes the bill, saying each hospital’s nursing leadership should determine safe and appropriate staffing levels, not the state.
