Members of AFSCME Local 875 are set to walk off the job Oct. 20 at McLaren Flint (Mich.), ABC affiliate WJRT reported.
The union represents nurses at the hospital, according to the Oct. 9 report. McLaren Flint is part of McLaren Health Care, a 13-hospital system based in Grand Blanc, Mich.
Union members authorized a strike in September. The union and hospital have been in negotiations since January, according to AFSCME Local 875. A statement shared with Becker's from McLaren Flint said the hospital has offered an average pay increase of 20% over four years, relief from rising health insurance costs, and protections for staffing ratios.
The union contends that hospital management is uninterested in addressing their calls for greater patient safety, more affordable health insurance, higher on-call pay and modest wage increases.
A strike could still be averted if an agreement is reached.
