Members of the New York State Nurses Association picketed outside Champlain Valley Physicians' Hospital Medical Center in Plattsburgh, N.Y., Thursday, according to a Press-Republican report.
The hospital's nurses and other NYSNA members like nurse practitioners, physician assistants, audiologists, pharmacists and social workers took part in the picket. NYSA represents roughly 800 employees at CVPH Medical Center, according to the report.
NYSNA and CVPH Medical Center's contract expired at the end of last year, and the two sides have been in negotiations for a new contract since early December 2012.
However, the negotiations have "slowed" recently, according to the report. The hospital has proposed a 4 percent pay increase over the three years of the new contract, and some nurses could receive a pay increase as high as 14 percent, in addition to expanded retiree benefits and funding for staff education, the Press-Republican reported. NYSNA representatives believe the hospital's proposals do not compete with other healthcare facilities in the area.
