Nurses who went on strike at Wilkes-Barre (Pa.) General Hospital Tuesday will be locked out of the hospital until Friday, according to a report by The Citizens' Report.
The hospital's owner, Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems, hired temporary replacement nurses for 72 hours. A hospital statement said the 72-hour commitment was "required in order to secure competent, qualified nurses," according to the report. "The hospital looks forward to welcoming all of its employees" back to work after the 72-hour period, the statement said.
The nurses, who are represented by The Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals, went on strike over what they called bad-faith bargaining and the hospital's failure to negotiate fairly.
