Butler Hospital union workers reach labor deal with Care New England

A union representing employees at Butler Hospital, a substance abuse and psychiatric facility in Providence, R.I., on Wednesday approved a four-year agreement with Care New England, according to a Providence Journal report.

The agreement, which was tentative prior to Wednesday's approval, follows months of negotiations between the Service Employees International Union District 1199 New England and Providence-based CNE, the union said in a statement, according to the report.

In a statement, the union said the new agreement "provides for improved job security and regular raises, while protecting retirement and health care benefits and lifting up the standards of previously unorganized workers at the hospital who recently joined District 1199NE."

The agreement covers a number of hospital workers, including social workers, intake coordinators, patient financial service coordinators and unit secretaries, among others, reports the Providence Journal.
