Bay Area Hospital to Outsource Transcription Services

Coos Bay, Ore.-based Bay Area Hospital is outsourcing its transcriptionist services, meaning up to 10 transcriptionists will lose their jobs, according to a report by The World.

The hospital's transcriptionists have the option to join SoftScript: Medical Transcription Service, or they could take other positions inside Bay Area Hospital.

The transcriptionists are represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union. Union leaders have said the workers would receive less pay and benefits if they join the new company. However, Bay Area Hospital has offered affected employees three months of health insurance coverage after the transition goes into effect, according to the report.
