Anthem adds 450 employees at BCBS facility in Ga.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal (R)'s office announced Feb. 2 that health insurer Anthem will add 450 employees to its Columbus-based BlueCross BlueShield of Georgia complex, according to the Ledger-Enquirer.

The Columbus "Customer Care Center" opened last September and employs 1,285 workers. The facility operates as a call center and handles a variety of services, including claims processing, enrollment, billing and information technology.

The workforce expansion involves a capital investment of over $3 million dollars. Anthem will have a total of approximately 4,500 workers in Georgia after the 450 employees are added.

"Anthem's decision to expand in Columbus speaks to the strength and vitality of Georgia's business-friendly environment," said Gov. Deal in a statement, according to the report. "This expansion further bolsters Georgia's reputation as the nation's top destination for health IT companies."
