Stony Brook (N.Y.) Medicine completed its acquisition of 90-bed Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport, N.Y., July 1.
The deal brings Stony Brook Medicine's hospital total to three. The other two are Stony Brook University Hospital/Stony Brook Children's Hospital and Stony Brook Southampton (N.Y.) Hospital.
Eastern Long Island Hospital will now be called Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital. The two health systems have been affiliated since 2006 and began exploring a deal in 2015. The health systems plan to launch a telehealth program to connect community members with Stony Brook Medicine specialists, as well as expand current programs and other projects.
Under the agreement, the Eastern Long Island Hospital Foundation will maintain its own board of directors and all funds will remain local.
Editor's note: This article and headline were updated July 8 to reflect that Stony Brook Medicine consists of three hospitals, not four.
