Oak Valley Hospital, Dignity Health in California to End 15-Year Affiliation

Oak Valley Hospital in Oakdale, Calif., will not renew its 15-year affiliation with San Francisco-based Catholic system Dignity Health when the contract expires Sept. 1, according to a report by the Escalon Times.

Leaders of both systems reached the mutual decision to end the affiliation after assessing the Oak Valley Hospital District's needs, according to the report.

In a news release, Oak Valley Hospital District Board Chairman Dan Cummins highlighted positives of the partnership, including expanded clinical services, construction of a new medical office and the first floor of a new hospital, and improved patient satisfaction and care quality, according to the report.

In September 2012, Oak Valley Hospital Foundation's ousted executive director sued the hospital district and its former CEO, claiming she was fired in August 2011 for campaigning on her own time for three nominees to the hospital district's board who were critical of then-CEO John Friel.

In February 2013, the hospital board voted to discontinue its six-bed maternity unit, displacing 20 staff positions.
