WCA Hospital in Jamestown, N.Y., is exploring a strategic affiliation with UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pa., according to a WCA news release.
If the organizations do affiliate, the 342-bed WCA has said it will remain an independent non-profit hospital. An affiliation would also make it the only hospital in New York to have ties with the UPMC system.
"While we stand strong today, we realize that with the uncertainties of healthcare reform, we need to be responsible and consider a strategic affiliation with a regional system when we are in a position of strength and both parties can provide mutual benefit," Betsy T. Wright, president and CEO of WCA, said in the news release.
Officials also emphasized that this is not a proposed merger.
