New Jersey Senator Calls for Probe of Bankrupt Hoboken University Medical Center

A New Jersey senator has called for an investigation into the bankruptcy of Hoboken (N.J.) University Medical Center and its operator after a former HUMC attorney said the city board purposely drove the hospital into the ground, according to an article from the Hudson Reporter.

Sen. Loretta Weinberg sent letters to other officials calling for the investigation. Former HUMC attorney Donald Scarinci alleged last week that the Hoboken Municipal Hospital Authority, which oversees HUMC, intentionally withheld money to force bankruptcy. A spokesperson for the city board has denied the claim, according to the report.

There have also been questions over conflicts of interest between Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer and various local political figures, including Gov. Christopher Christie.
