Fremont (Neb.) Health finalized its affiliation with Nebraska Methodist Health System, a three-hospital system in Omaha, July 23, according to Live Well Nebraska.
Here are four things to know:
1. Fremont Health began its partnership search roughly 18 months ago and explored strategic partnership opportunities with several large-scale health systems before choosing Methodist Health System.
2. Under the agreement, the organizations will create and operate Methodist Fremont Health, which will act as a subsidiary of Methodist. The new organization will lease Fremont Health Medical Center and an affiliated nursing home from Fremont Health for $67 million over a 20-year period, with the option to purchase the properties for $1 after that timeframe.
3. The subsidiary will also maintain its own board comprising a total of nine to 12 members, including seven Fremont-area residents, two of whom will also serve on Methodist's board.
4. The new subsidiary will begin operations in October. Officials said their first task will be to update Fremont Health's EHR system and expand local care services. All Fremont Health employees and physicians will be hired as part of the Methodist Fremont Health team.
