MedWest Haywood, a public hospital authority in Clyde, N.C., has reached an agreement in principle concerning its pending acquisition by Brentwood, Tenn.-based Duke LifePoint Healthcare.
Under the agreement, Duke LifePoint will invest $36 million in capital improvements at the MedWest Haywood during the next decade, according to a news release. The transaction will give the hospital authority access to additional clinical and operational resources that will be used to enhance healthcare services. The agreement still requires approval from the Haywood County Board of Commissioners and the local hospital authority board.
MedWest Haywood is moving forward with the transaction after reopening all inpatient departments in the main hospital this week, less than three weeks after an electrical fire led to the relocation of all patients to other facilities. The emergency department and outpatient department reopened for patient care on June 30. The reopening comes after review and approval by technical and governmental agencies, including the North Carolina Department of Health Service Regulation.
