Augusta-based MaineGeneral Health's three-day online auction to sell the MaineGeneral Medical Center facility in Augusta as well as the Seton facility in Waterville ended without a buyer, according to a Morning Sentinel report.
According to the report, the minimum bid required was $2.6 million, but the proposed deal called for the new owners to recoup $1.1 million in rent from the hospital, meaning a bidder could have offered $1.5 million for both properties. Chuck Hays, CEO of MaineGeneral Medical Center, said that bidders did not meet the necessary minimum, according to the report.
MaineGeneral is currently building a new hospital and will vacate the Augusta facility after the new facility opens in December 2013. The hospital will move operations from the Seton campus a year after that.
According to the report, hospital officials plan to follow up with bidders to spark interest.
