Iberville (La.) Parish is seeking a private partner to help develop a hospital in the area after River West Medical Center in Plaquemine, La., closed in 2008 following Hurricane Gustav, according to an Advocate report.
The 80-bed hospital was shuttered permanently in 2009 after entering bankruptcy, according to the report.
Since November, the parish has been working with hospital consulting firm Stroudwater Associates to assess the viability of a new hospital for the area.
After working with Stroudwater, the parish determined that it will need to bring in a private partner to help develop a facility as the $21.6 million in state disaster aid for the project would not be enough to complete the project.
Stroudwater is currently working to identify parties interested in developing the facility.
