Jersey City (N.J.) Medical Center CEO Joseph Scott said at a city council meeting that the pending sale of Christ Hospital to Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services would be a "recipe for disaster" for Hudson County, according to a Jersey Journal report.
Prime Healthcare agreed to buy Christ Hospital, also in Jersey City, earlier this summer. If the sale goes through, converting Christ into a for-profit entity, there would be two non-profit hospitals left in the county.
Mr. Scott said his hospital has been negatively impacted from the recent transactions of for-profit hospital operators in the county, and his hospital would also be interested in taking over Christ Hospital, according to the report.
Roughly two weeks ago, it was reported that Prime Healthcare asked its purchase of Christ Hospital be expedited so it could clear by Dec. 31.
