Detroit-based Henry Ford Health System CEO Nancy Schlichting told the Detroit Free Press the system's recently terminated $6.6 billion merger with Beaumont Health System, based in Royal Oak, Mich., was the latest of three prior negotiations between the two systems since 1971.
"[Beaumont] came to us," Ms. Schlichting told the Free Press. "We weren't really looking, and it was a unique opportunity." She didn't share details as to why merger plans were reversed six months after signing a letter of intent.
