HCA has signed a letter of intent to acquire Galichia Heart Hospital in Wichita, Kan., according to a Nashville Post report.
The acquisition is part of the hospital operator's recent string of physician-owned hospital purchases. Growth of physician-owned hospitals is severely limited under the healthcare reform law, causing some owners to consider selling their facilities. Last Year, HCA-owned systems acquired MedCath's interests in Texsan Heart Hospital in San Antonio as Heart Hospital of Austin.
According to Avondale Partners analyst Kemp Dolliver, HCA will continue to target physician-owned hospitals for acquisitions. He estimates 20 physician-owned hospitals are located in HCA's markets, according to the report.
