A consulting report recommending the consolidation of three hospitals in New Jersey has earned the support of at least one hospital executive, according to an article from the Hudson Reporter.
Consultants from Navigant recommend that Christ Hospital in Jersey City, Hoboken University Medical Center and Jersey City Medical Center try to consolidate services to rely less on state annual grants. Joseph Scott, CEO of Liberty Health at Jersey City Medical Center, says he favors consolidation since JCMC is one of only two hospitals in the county that will remain non-profit in the near future.
HUMC Holdco, the company that is buying Hoboken University Medical Center, issued a statement saying: "Our only comment to the Navigant report's findings is to reaffirm our commitment to operating HUMC as a full service acute care community hospital."
Two of the three hospitals in the report are now in the process of becoming for-profit entities and less likely to need stabilization funds, which may reduce the urgency of consolidation, according to the report.
