Robert Seamon, CEO of Clifton-Fine Hospital in Star Lake, N.Y., discussed the advantages of a proposed affiliation with Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, N.Y., at community meetings last week, according to a Watertown Daily Times report.
The affiliation is expected to help Clifton-Fine with back office operations and physician recruitment, according to the report. Mr. Seamon also said the hospital is examining community need for a telemedicine program.
Additionally, Mr. Seamon said Clifton-Fine hopes to strengthen its finances by growing medical services through the partnership with Samaritan, according to the report. Clifton-Fine lost $400,000 in 2013.
Clifton-Fine originally announced in February 2013 that it had decided to affiliate with Samaritan. The hospital chose the 294-bed Samaritan because it was a local entity, and Clifton-Fine officials said the affiliation was necessary to "remain a strong and vibrant hospital" in the face of healthcare reform.
