The Massillon (Ohio) city council selected an organization to operate the former Massillon-based Affinity Medical Center Aug. 29, according to the timesreporter.com.
Here are five things to know:
1. The Massillon city council gathered during a 30-minute closed-door meeting Aug. 29. After the session's completion, the council announced it had selected a company or entity to operate the shuttered hospital. Officials refused to disclose the name of the corporation, stating a letter detailing the agreement had not been finalized.
2. Officials have stated they want the new hospital to include an emergency room, surgical center, intensive care unit and an unspecified number of patient beds.
3. Three groups met with the city council and presented their formal offers for the shuttered hospital property during the past two weeks. The city received five offers for the property, but eliminated two that placed too much responsibility and risk on the city, officials told the timesreporter.com.
4. The selected organization is set to acquire the 156-bed hospital's main campus, an adjacent parking lot and four other parcels of land.
5. Brentwood, Tenn.-based Quorum Health, a spinoff of Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems, announced the hospital's closure in January and shuttered the facility the following month. In May, the city council approved a measure to acquire the $25 million hospital and its assets from Quorum for $1.
