Central Maine Healthcare, Mid Coast Hospital Compete to Acquire Parkview Adventist Medical Center

Central Maine Healthcare in Lewiston filed a letter of intent with the Maine Department of Health and Human Services to acquire Parkview Adventist Medical Center in Brunswick, Maine, which prompted Mid Coast Hospital, also in Brunswick, to file a competing proposal, according to a Bangor Daily News report.

According to the filing, the acquisition of Parkview Adventist by Central Maine would be non-financial, and there would be no changes in services, increases in beds or new equipment. According to the report, Central Maine's proposal would give it ultimate governing authority over Parkview, but day-to-day operational control would remain with the facility. Parkview would also retain its physical properties and tax-exempt status.

Mid Coast Hospital's competing filing proposed that all acute-care inpatient and outpatient care would be consolidated at its facility, which would eliminate the need for Parkview in the community.

Both Central Maine and Mid Coast need to file extensive applications for the transaction, and according to the report, Maine's Department of HHS has received no applications.
