Adventist Health System, which operates Florida Hospital in Orlando, and the Southeast Volusia Hospital District, which operates Bert Fish Medical Center in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., have filed responses denying allegations they violated the state's Sunshine Law in regards to their merger proceedings, according to a Daytona Beach News-Journal report.
Bert Fish merged with Florida Hospital in July. Following, the Bert Fish Foundation sued alleging violation of the state's Sunshine Law. The Sunshine Law establishes a basic right of access to most meetings of boards, commissions and other governing bodies of state and local governmental agencies or authorities.
Bert Fish and Adventist filed responses to the suit earlier this week denying the violations. Bert Fish previously decided to rehold merger meetings and is currently hearing proposals from a number of health systems on possible partnerships. The responses further argue that this action makes the foundation's suit "moot," according to the report.
