The Healthcare Financial Management Association has released a report on acquisition and affiliation strategies, based on hospital and health system site visits, interviews and 145 responses to a survey sent to senior financial executive HFMA members.
The executives surveyed were asked to rank their considerations before agreeing to an acquisition or affiliation. They identified the following six top concerns, listed in order of importance.
1. Governance issues/desire for local ownership.
2. Cultural fit between organizations.
3. Physician opposition.
4. Inability to integrate information technology.
5. Management concerns about retaining their positions.
6. Concerns about the Federal Trade Commission's response.
