Two Washington State Hospitals Move Closer to Affiliation With Swedish Medical Center

Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles, Wash., and Forks (Wash.) Community Hospital have each approved a memorandum of intent to form a tertiary partnership with Seattle-based Swedish Medical Center, according to a Peninsula Daily News report.

Jefferson Healthcare in Port Townsend, Wash., will vote to approve a similar document on May 11.

Under the potential affiliation, the hospitals would affiliate with Swedish for patient referrals, clinical services and technology improvements, such as electronic medical records. The areas of focus outlined in the memorandum include improved local cardiology and neuroscience, coordination for referrals and sub-licensing the Epic EMR system. The three hospitals would refer patients to Swedish for specialized care in return for referrals from Swedish for follow-up care.

OMC, Forks Community Hospital and Jefferson Healthcare would each remain a separate, independent entity with patient and physician choice, according to the report.
