Three Kentucky healthcare organizations — University of Louisville Hospital/James Graham Brown Cancer Center, Louisville-based Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's HealthCare and Lexington-based Saint Joseph Health System — received approval from their boards to create a healthcare system, according to a joint news release.
The partnership is designed to increase access to care, lower costs and expand research and education opportunities. The new system plans to include more than 3,000 physicians and 91 locations, including hospitals, clinics, specialty institutions, home health agencies, satellite primary care centers and physician groups.
The health system sponsors are Denver-based Catholic Health Initiatives and Jewish Hospital HealthCare Services. These two organizations created Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's HealthCare in a joint venture. CHI is also parent company to Saint Joseph Health System.
Under the partnership, CHI will provide $320 million to support the system's mission and services. The system will invest $200 million in capital to expand the academic medical center in Louisville and $100 million in statewide healthcare services.
The partnership now needs regulatory approvals, which could take up to 12 months.
