Physicians Hospital System has acquired Aurora Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D., which will be re-opened as Doctors Hospital, according to a PHS news release.
The recently built hospital structure in the Aurora Medical Park was originally intended to open as a physician-owned hospital. However, provisions within the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act passed by Congress in 2010 banned physician ownership in new hospitals and prevented the opening of the hospital.
The new facility, to be named Doctors Hospital, will be a full-service facility offering an emergency department, intensive care unit and obstetrics. The build out of the hospital, additional service lines, the number of beds and hiring of staff will be determined in the next sixty days.
