Hackensack (N.J.) University Medical Center has formally applied for state permission to reopen Pascack Valley Hospital in Westwood, N.J., according to a NorthJersey.com report.
The hospital closed in Nov. 2007 due to bankruptcy. If approved, the 128-bed for-profit hospital would open late next year. Reopening the hospital would address the state's physician shortage and provide care to the northeastern area of Bergen County, which has been underserved since Pascack closed, according to HUMC President and CEO Robert C. Garrett.
A final decision on the application is not expected until November. This is the second time HUMC has applied to reopen the hospital.
