Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, Mass., is in active discussions with larger systems, including Boston's Massachusetts General Hospital and Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanguard Health Systems, regarding a merger, according to a Mass Live report.
The hospital is now looking for a relationship where a larger partner becomes the owner, and the hospital's board of trustees expects to announce the merger decision by the end of November. Along with MGH and Vanguard, the hospital is also in talks with Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass.
Cooley held an affiliation with Dartmouth-Hitchcock Alliance, based in Lebanon, N.H., but those ties came to an end in 2008. A Cooley spokesperson said a clinical affiliation is no longer enough to meet demands.
