Vanderbilt launches network of ICU recovery centers

Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., has launched the first network of recovery ICU clinics in the U.S. to help ensure patients receive the care they need post-intensive care, reported Nashville Public Radio.

Vanderbilt established the second ICU recovery clinic in the nation in 2012, and a few have emerged since. However, these clinics worked in relative isolation, creating the need to form a network.

"We want to get all that knowledge together, figure out what works, what doesn't, how can we best serve our patients with the least amount of cost and effort on the side of hospital systems," Carla Sevin, MD, who oversees the ICU Recovery Center at Vanderbilt, told Nashville Public Radio.

The network will consist of 11 clinics in the U.S. and U.K. in the first year.
