UCLA, House Clinic to partner for ear and skull center

Los Angeles-based House Clinic and UCLA signed a letter of intent last week to form a clinical partnership joining their clinical and research facilities to form a specialized center for patient care, research and education in hearing, ear and skull-based disorders.

Together, the organizations plan to expand both clinical and research endeavors and improve patient access to highly-specialized diagnosis and treatment of ear and skull-based conditions.

The identities of both organizations will remain independent and House Clinic's nine physicians will become part of the UCLA network, which includes UCLA Health System and David Geffen School of Medicine. The partnership will allow patients worldwide to receive treatment from House Clinic physicians, according to David Feinberg, MD, president of the UCLA Health System, CEO of the UCLA Hospital System and associate vice chancellor of the Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

Both organizations are known for their hearing loss and ear disorder treatments and the alliance would establish the nation's leader in care, research and education for ear disorders, according to UCLA and House Clinic.

"The House Clinic continues to be the nation's premier organization in the treatment of hearing loss and ear disorders," Dr. Gerald Berke, UCLA chair of head and neck surgery said in a statement.  “Having them join the UCLA Health family demonstrates our commitment to future growth and excellence in the field, and reflects House's recognition of UCLA as the most important health care provider in southern California."

The state of California recognized both organizations as designated cochlear implant surgery sites, out of only a few statewide.
